Q. What is VoIP?
VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol or Voice over IP. VoIP is the method by which you can send your voice (analog data) over the Internet (digital data) to an end-user who receives the message.
Q. Can I keep my current phone numbers with Virtutone service?
Yes, with Virtutone's local number portability, you will be able to keep your current number when you switch your service to us.
Q. Can I keep my current toll-free number?
Yes, Virtutone can carry over your existing number from your previous carrier or we can provide you with a brand-new toll-free number.
Q. Will the SF7000 work behind a firewall?
The SF7000 will work behind most firewalls/routers. However, we have noticed certain issues with very high end routers such as Cisco or Juniper. If you are working behind these types of routers and are experiencing issues, contact your network administrator for further assistance.
Q. Can I plug the SF7000 adapter into my computer?
No.
Q. Do your voice lines have 911 services?
Our voice service has a 911 service that will first ask you where you are calling from and then route you to the appropriate 911 dispatch. Please refer to our Terms of Service as outlined on our website for further clarification.
Q. Will satellite jitter affect my fax service?
Any interference with your Internet connection (packet loss, complete loss, or large fluctuations in latency that cause jitter) will result in a loss of voice quality. However, the only factor that will affect your fax service is a complete loss of Internet. Our fax service is designed to transmit over networks with high latency and/or high jitter.
Q. How do I make a call on my VoIP phone?
To use your telephone, simply pick up the handset, check for dial tone and dial the number as follows:
- Local calls: area code + phone number (10 digit dialling)
- Long distance calls (within NA): 1 + area code + phone number
- International calls: 011 + phone number
